M° Gökmen began to study music at an early age under the supervision of his mother, the opera singer Muazzez Gökmen. He completed his piano and composition studies at Ankara State Conservatory, following his studies in Ankara , he went to Italy to study orchestral conducting;

He graduated with a degree in orchestral conducting from Santa Cecilia Conservatory in 1978 as a student of Piero Bellugi, one of the prominent Italian conductors of his generation and one of the most talended students of Leonard Bernstein;

The same year he graduated in orchestral conducting from Siena Accademia Chigiana , and the following year he gratuated with high honours from Santa Cecilia National Accademy as a student of the “Maestro of the maestros” Franco Ferrara ;

After furthering his studies in masterclasses in Salzburg Mozarteum with O. Suitner , in Bournemouth with G. Hurst , in Hilversum with E. Downes he won the Gino Marinuzzi International Conducting Competition in San Remo in 1980, a great success that which put him on the İnternational circuit, conducting orchestras throughout Europe, and in USA and South America;

Rengim Gökmen served as the Ankara State Opera and Ballet General Music Director between 1984 and 1989;

He served as General Director of Turkish State Opera and Ballet first between 1992-1995 and then between 2007-2014. During his tenures as General Director, Gökmen first launched the Aspendos Opera and Ballet Festival in 1994, then the İstanbul International Opera Festival in 2010;

He was the İzmir State Symphony Orchestra Music Director between 1991 and 2005 and music director and principal conductor of the Presidential State Symphony Orchestra between 2006-2020 (until June 2020) ,during which he conducted numerous concerts, recorded many albums,and toured both home and abroad;

He was honoured by the Italian Republic with the title of Cavaliere “Al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” in 1988;

He was honoured with the State Artist title in 1998 in Turkey;

He received the Turkish Presidency Culture and Arts Grand Award in 1999;

He has been awarded by the İstanbul Cultural and Art Foundation in 2019;

He has worked very often with world famous soloists such as: Natalia GutmanRadu Lupu, Lazar Berman, Ilya Grubert, Maxim Vengerov, Bruno Giuranna, M. Minchev, l. Isakadze, A. Noras, P. Romero, K. Ricciarelli, M. Fedotov, Steven. Isserlis, Sarah Chang, Vladimir Repin, W. Fuchs, T. Little, A. Markov, M. Maisky, Soyoung Yoon, A. Sara Ott;

Actually he teaches Conducting at the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory and among his students are the most successful Turkish conductors of today.

Hakan Şensoy

Born in Istanbul. Hakan Şensoy started his violin training under the supervision of Prof. Ayhan Turan, in “Fast Training Special Violin Unit”.  Since the first recital he gave in 1984, he has participated in many orchestra concerts as soloist and conductor at the prestigious concert halls (New York Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center – Paris Louvre Auditorium, Wien Musikverein, Milan Sala Verdi) in Italy, Albania, Switzerland, United Kingdom, France, Bulgaria, the United States, Australia, Romania, China, Japan, Finland, Greece, Latvia, Poland, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, England, Croatia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, Russia, Venezuela, Mexico, Czech Republic, Northern Cyprus and Turkey, and has given recitals.

In 1985, he was awarded the “Most Successful Young Artist of the Year” by the Istanbul Philharmonic Society and received the “Outstanding Achievement in Art” award from the hands of ITU Rector in the same year.

He completed his master studies at ITU Institute of Social Sciences on Music theory, in 1992.  He is the founder of the Milli Reasürans Chamber Orchestra, the founder and the Artistic Director of Istanbul Chamber Orchestra and the Philharmonia Istanbul.

He attended Gianluigi Gelmetti’s conducting course in l’Accademia Musicale Chigiana di Sienna in the summer of 2003. He also participated Maestro Rengim Gökmen’s Conducting Summer Academies on 2017, 2018 as well as 2019, Izmir Turkey.

As the first and only Turkish conductor on the stage at Milan Teatro alla Scala in 240 years, the artist has pointed the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Izmir State Symphony Orchestra since the season of 2018-2019.

Hakan Şensoy is currently a Asst.Prof. at ITU Turkish Traditonal Music State Conservatory.


Oğuzhan Kavruk

He was born in 1969. He enrolled at Hacettepe University, Ankara State Conservatory and started studying cello with Prof. Engin Sansa, in 1980. He graduated in 1989 and joined the Presidential Symphony Orchestra where he has played as a cello soloist for 29 years.

Meanwhile, he completed his Master’s and Proficiency in Art studies in Chamber Music and Cello at Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts.
He completed his conducting studies, which he started in 2006, with Prof. Rengim Gökmen.

Their collaboration still continues within the Doğuş Children’s Symphony Orchestra. He is an assistant conductor of Prof. Rengim Gökmen.

After the artist left his position in 2018 at the Presidential Symphony Orchestra, he started to work at the Antalya State Symphony Orchestra as a Principal Conductor and Music Director. He is still carrying out his duty.
